You may have heard this phrase before, “Mighty Oaks from Little Acorns Grow” or “Great Oaks from Little Acorns Grow”, but do you know where it came from or what it actually means?

This English proverb means that great and significant things can originate from humble and seemingly insignificant beginnings.  It symbolizes growth and development, particularly in the context of personal or organizational progress.

Here are a few variations of the quote:

As for me …
My big “acorn” project that started as a small idea and turned into something big, was the year I decided to can and jar all the fruits and vegetables in my orchard and gardens – to save them for later rather than eat what was grown and give the rest away.

It started out small, with only a few shelves lined with filled jars in my canning room. But by the end of the growing season, hundreds of jars were lined from top to bottom on every shelf – with every canning recipe imaginable inside … soups and stews; side dishes, canned vegetables and canned fruits; jams and jellies; bags of dried herbs, vegetables, and fruits; dehydrated fruits for snacks; dehydrated meals in mylar bags, and my specialty – Fruit Liqueurs. IT WAS UTERLLY FANTASTIC !!

This “Mighty Oaks From Little Acorns” project of preserving food, was enough to last my husband and I the entire fall, winter, and spring. It was such an accomplishment on my part – one that I was so proud of. Not only did I teach myself how to can and preserve food, but I also knew that if things were to get really bad in this world, I could provide meals for survival if I had to. Goals Made and the best lessons learned !!
